These are some tips I am learning as I am getting ready to start college and thought it would be a good idea to share with you and get your thoughts too.
As many of you might know school can be very expensive so these are some ways to get through college and have fun but not end up in a bunch of debt once you graduate.
1. SCHOLARSHIPS
A scholarship is money (that you DO NOT have to pay back) that you have earned. There are so many ways to get one scholarship or even multiple, why wouldn't you want to at least try for one. I got my scholarship to Avila from my grade in high school, which is called an Acdemic scholarship. Other ways are literally tipping into google "scholarships" and then just scrolling through all the pages, I know boooooooring, but it will get you money so it is worth a little bit of work.
2. FINACIAL AID
Financial Aid is money the government pays to your school for you. So you never even have to worry about it. Just fill out the sheets in OCTOBER, at Avila I got $500 just for applying for FA early, turn them in to your FA office and wait to hear back. Now this one is not something everyone can get like a scholarship but worth a shot if they give you $100.
NOW FOR SOME (maybe) FUN WAYS TO SAVE
3. CHEAP TEXT BOOKS
When I went to community college in the spring my books LITERALLY cost $1,200. Ridiculous! That was more then my all my classes cost together. SOOO get on Chegg or Amazon I found a couple of my books for rental which was $12.00 for one and I just return it when I am done. Also Thrift stores, the one by me has book 10 for a dollar. Download the chegg app and it has a scanner thing, scan the books and see how much you can get for them.
4. STUDENT DISCOUNTS
Jo-Anns 10% off purchase, Banana Republic 15% off, Apple Store they have products that are cheaper just for high school and college students, Subway 10% off with ID, and literally SO many more. Just look up college discounts.
Do NOT spend any money for a whole WEEK, seem to scary try just a day, seem to easy do a whole month. Either way here are the rules. 1. Can not spend money on anything, gas, food, fun stuff, going out,NONE OF IT. If you want to go out and do something make sure it is free. For Food I bet there is some stuff in those pantries that need to be eaten, or use your dreaded meal pass. And Gas I hope you filled your tank up before you started the week. You will find that not only will you save money but you will find FREE fun stuff to do all the time.
6. COFFEE
I know, but I need my coffee. For one I am not saying get rid of your coffee I am just saying make it at home. I will link a way for you to make your Famous Starbucks drinks at home. Not only is it super duper inexpensive to make it at home but you can make it however you want. Let me explain with numbers for a second. If you get the starbucks brand of coffee grounds it is 6 bucks which is the amount of ONE coffee right there. But with the bag you can get at the very minimum 20 LARGE cups or venti as they call it for $6 dollars. Plus if you do the starbucks brand of coffee grounds you take the bag into the store and you get a FREE drink. SO you save money and get a FREE starbucks drink I think that is a win win. ALSO no line to wait in. PS this works with literally any other drinks including soda, a 2-liter is $2 max. if you get a soda at qt every morning they are 99 cents.
7. EAT HOME
Eating at home is so much cheaper or put that meal pass you have to have ( if you live in dorms) to use. Not only will you save money but you will learn to cook too. And if you have to share a kitchen with everyone in the dorm you could have like Taco Tuesday or something and have fun making friends and food. I LOVE pizza so mucvh especially cheesey crust pizza but that is $8 for a large that I will not eat all of. Which means I learned to make my own pizza for 3 bucks and just my size.
8. TRY
If you are really determined to save money just be mindful of where your money is going, when you go shopping ask yourself am I really go to use this or take a younger brother with you that will say
